Background

The first 60,000 sq. ft store opened in the UK on 1st July 2002 on a 4.3 acre site in Kings Norton, Birmingham. Further stores have opened in Cardiff, Bromford Lane in Birmingham, Govan in Glasgow, Purley Way- Croydon.
Further stores are planned over the next 5 years in all major urban areas of the UK.
The concept is based on the French “La Plateforme de Batiment” model successfully introduced across France since 1988, now with 25 stores, and more recently extended into Hungary, Poland, Spain, Mexico and Brazil. Platform is a division of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution Limited, which is part of the Saint-Gobain Group.
